(More customer reviews)I purchased this light at a popular Home Improvement Center for about $5 and will just touch on the points that made this light a great value for myself.
1 - It has a lanyard. This is great because my primary intent is to hang this light on my pack, and in my shelter.
2 - The shaft is hollow. This will allow the user to store small items such as dry tinder/Vaseline soaked cotton balls in protective baggie. Or what I have done is put my fire steel in it, with cotton balls to also keep it from rattling. This may not fit your fire steel if it has a grip. I purchased multiple bare fire steels from firesteeldotcom and they are a wonderful value too. You can also fit spare batteries for the light, and maybe some AA or AAA's in there too. Also remember when you use this space it will diminish the light output in the shaft if not completely smothering it. On that note, it is possible to reverse the light so that the colored side shines through the front, and the white light shines down the shaft. This is good if you want a covert light illuminating out of the front. When I did this, there was noticeable friction when I inserted it backwards, and I needed to use my pliers carefully on the white led to extract it. I'm not going to use it this way, but if I did I would sand down whatever piece of plastic was giving it friction.
3 - It is light weight. This may not be an issue for most. But if you are a backpacker on extended trips, then you know exactly how every ounce is going to add up, burning unnecessary calories along the trail.
My only complaint is the that it has a whistle. I would have preferred to have that space as more storage.
Gear can be expensive these days and it is refreshing to see a useful product at a very affordable price. I must note that this is my backup. I did spend some cashola on my primary, but that's not to say that this won't last in the years to come just because it's $5 and plastic. Time will tell. Thanks for reading.
PS: It takes 3x AG-13 batteries in case you were wondering.
