(More customer reviews)You'd think the beam would steadily dim as the battery weakens. It doesn't. It begins to flicker almost imperceptibly, then obviously, then it begins to STROBE. You have to constantly readjust the beam to bring it to a level where the flicker disappears. You'll never stop having to readjust the beam if you use the light for a longer period.
Take the same battery and put it in a Surefire Backup, for example, and the beam will be solid and steady although not as bright as a new battery, obviously.
I called Surefire about the one I bought. They said flickering and strobing were to be expected. They should have mentioned this on their website or in the owner's manual, but they don't. I wouldn't have purchased it had I known flickering and strobing were normal. The steady light you can obtain once you crank down the lumens is quite dim. The same battery will give you a far higher level of steady light in other non-"adjustable" 123 lights.
This product is not up to Surefire's self-reported standards and was a total disappointment.
Stick to the lights with fixed settings. The "variable" Titan actually has three settings: dimming, flickering and strobing.
I could not resolve the issue through Surefire and had to use other remedies.

The ultra compact T1A Titan flashlight boasts impressive output from a single 123A lithium battery, but it also offers a near infinite range of lower output settings which allow you to conserve battery power or preserve your night vision when doing close work like map reading. A virtually indestructible power-regulated LED emitter and precision micro-textured reflector produce a smooth beam that's selectable, with just a twist of the bezel, from zero to 70 lumens-more than three times the output of a much larger two-D-cell flashlight. The stylish T1A Titan is small enough to attach to your keychain, wear around your neck on its included lanyard, or stay in your pocket for easy access.
